About Us

Who We Are

In order to support, promote, and ensure the advancement of Igbere people and development of Igbere community, some distinguished natives of Igbere families in the Diaspora held an inaugural interest meeting on March 26, 2017 and unanimously resolved to establish an organization to be known and referred to as the “Igbere Development Association, Inc.” (IDA).

What We Stand For

We the people of Igbere extraction, having come together with oneness of purpose, aspiration and united front, in recognition of our indivisible heritage, love for our community and its welfare, and in recognition of the lack of certain basic needs, do hereby adopt to frequently review and audit our community’s social profile and seek ways we can impact, promote, and develop social initiatives and programs for the development, growth, and welfare of our community; through justice, fairness, integrity, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

Purpose

The purpose for which the ‘Association’ is formed is “To promote charitable, educational and cultural, scientific activities, and to develop and operate community-based services for Igbere people and others, all for the purpose of enabling the people to enjoy the basic rights as all other citizens of the world.”

What We Have Done So Far

On April 9, 2017, IDA held another meeting and resolved to elect Interim Officers/Committees namely: Executive, Constitution Drafting and Project Committee, and to determine any project that would promote the socio economic development of Igbere, to be embarked upon during the year 2017.

Thereafter, IDA selected to ‘Renovate the Main Building of Igbere Secondary School, Igbere; having seen the extent of unacceptable decay, dilapidation and abandonment of the school’s main building. Consequently, on June 4, 2017, IDA selected the contractor Moore Builders, after considering three indigenous contractors who responded to our ‘Request for Quotation’ (RFQ) on the aforesaid project.

In order to accomplish our project plan, IDA conducted fund raising meetings, where the attendees made financial pledges and commitment to raise money for the project as sponsors. Moreover, IDA set a project completion date to be the end of November 2017. The project has been commissioned and handed over to Igbere Community during the 2017 Ezumezu. Furthermore, IDA has embarked upon the project of providing standard classroom desk in accordance to the request made by the school principal Mr. Ekwuribe Ugochukwu.

Moreover, IDA has responded to the request made by some concerned citizens on the lack of portable and pipe borne water in the Igbere community. Through the commitment of some of the members, IDA has completed the Phase 2 of the rehabilitation of the Igbere Water Scheme which has been in comatose for the last 10 years.
